XEROX — Free Vocal Doubler Plugin (VST3, Windows)
XEROX is a free vocal doubler plugin for Windows 10/11 (64-bit), available as a VST3 and a standalone app. It creates up to four detuned, time-shifted copies of a vocal and spreads them across the stereo field as a single, pair, trio or choir. A HUMAN control adds the slow drift that real double-takes have, and a correlation bar guards your mono compatibility. It is part of BSMT.DSP, the free suite by Dr.dawgOG, a hip-hop producer from Anand, Gujarat.
What XEROX does
Doubling is the oldest trick in vocal production: record the same line twice and pan the takes apart, and the hook suddenly sounds wide and expensive. A vocal doubler plugin fakes the second take by copying the vocal, shifting it slightly in time and pitch and panning it away from the original. XEROX does that with up to four copies, so you can choose a single double, a stereo pair, a trio or a full choir from one take.
The reason most doublers sound like a chorus pedal is that their modulation is regular. Real double-takes drift slowly and irregularly, because a human never sings the same line twice the same way. XEROX's HUMAN control adds that slow, uneven drift to each copy. Every copy lives in its own cell on the display so you can watch it move, and a correlation bar tells you whether the widened stack will still sum cleanly to mono on a phone speaker.
Doubling rap hooks and ad-libs
On a hook, put XEROX after LOCKJAW and before the reverb. Start with a pair for width, raise HUMAN until the copies stop sounding like a pitch shifter, and keep an eye on the correlation bar; if it dips toward zero, narrow the spread. For a hook that needs to feel like a crowd, switch to choir. Verses usually want no doubling at all, or a single tight double under the last word of each bar for emphasis.
Ad-libs and background stacks take doubling more aggressively: trio mode with wide spread makes a mono ad-lib feel like a room of people. XEROX works as a VST3 in FL Studio, Ableton Live, Reaper, Studio One, Cubase and Bitwig on Windows.
How to use XEROX
- Insert XEROX on the hook or ad-lib track, after pitch correction and before reverb.
- Choose the stack: single, pair, trio or choir. A pair is the usual starting point for width.
- Raise HUMAN until the copies drift like separate takes instead of a chorus effect.
- Check the correlation bar and narrow the spread if it approaches zero, so the hook survives a mono phone speaker.

XEROX FAQ
What is a vocal doubler plugin?
It is a plugin that fakes a second (or third, or fourth) take of a vocal by copying the signal, shifting each copy slightly in time and pitch and panning the copies apart. XEROX does this with up to four copies and adds human-style drift so the result sounds like real double-tracking rather than a chorus effect.
Does doubling cause phase problems in mono?
It can, if the copies are shifted too far apart. XEROX shows a correlation bar so you can see when the stack is drifting toward mono cancellation, and you simply narrow the spread until it recovers.
Should I double every vocal?
No. Doubling is for hooks, ad-libs and emphasis lines. Most rap verses stay single and dry so the words hit directly; use XEROX on the hook and on the last word of key bars.
Is XEROX really free?
Yes. No account, no email gate, no trial. It ships in the BSMT.DSP installer on GitHub Releases, and you can install it alone or with all 27 plugins.
Does XEROX work in FL Studio and Ableton Live?
Yes. XEROX is a 64-bit VST3 for Windows 10/11 and loads in FL Studio, Ableton Live, Reaper, Studio One, Cubase, Bitwig and any other VST3 host.
